Istanbul, Turkey, August 25, 2019. The men’s national team of Austria continued their preparations for the upcoming CEV EuroVolley 2019 in Istanbul by facing Turkey, another EuroVolley contestant, twice. On Friday, head coach Michael Warm’s squad celebrated an impressive 3-1 win (23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 28-26). On the following day, the hosts returned the favour, beating Austria in four sets (25-27, 25-18, 25-20, 28-26). Turkey claimed this year’s European Golden League title two months ago in Tallinn, Estonia.

Michael Warm, head coach of Austria: “I am satisfied with the result and the level of our performance especially in the first encounter. My players made the right decisions in the decisive moments. On Saturday, we made too many mistakes and took too much risk in some situations. Overall, the trip to Istanbul has served its purpose. We have to become more consistent and efficient, but we are on the right path!”

On Thursday and Friday, team captain Peter Wohlfahrtstätter and his teammates will meet Romania in Craiova. Team Austria will finalise their preparations for the CEV EuroVolley 2019 in St. Pölten on September 5 and 6 by playing North Macedonia.

Austria made it to the final round of the European Championship for the first time through qualification after co-hosting the event in 2011 together with the Czech Republic. Michael Warm’s squad features in Pool B in Antwerp and Brussels, alongside home team Belgium, Germany, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain.
