Luxembourg, August 27, 2019. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić is currently paying a visit to each of the four countries playing host to the history-making CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women and he does not hide his satisfaction at the way the continental showpiece tournament has been running this far.

I am very happy, because after two days, the four organisers brought more than 50,000 supporters to the venues. This is a record for the European Championship and the best proof that we have established a great format for the competition. In Lodz, Poland, everything was perfect. It is not that surprising, because the Polish Federation has great experience and they have organised many of such major events. However, it is very nice that almost 8,000 people came to the venue for the match between Poland and Portugal, which was maybe not so interesting from the Polish perspective, considering the difference in quality and experience between the two teams. Yet, this is another example, that people come to enjoy Volleyball and it does not matter that much which teams are taking to the court,” he said.

After spending some time in Poland, the CEV President moved to Budapest, where an event of this magnitude is taking place for the very first time in history. “Hungary are organising such an event for the first time and this is a truly new experience for their Federation. Last year, they organised the European Golden League Final Four, which was a good test event. Now, maybe the spectators wish for better results from the home team, but still we had here very good numbers in terms of attendance. The organisation in Budapest is very good. We must be happy with the work done by Slovakia and Turkey as well. To my knowledge, we do not have any major problems anywhere. The four organisers are very enthusiastic, they have a lot of positive energy and I can only congratulate all of the four host countries for their work this far,” he continued.

The CEV President is convinced that this truly revolutionary experiment is the right way to go in order to grow Volleyball even further. “We are very proud of the idea of organising this major event in four countries. Now we started with the women’s competition, but we have another four host countries for the men’s event. It means that in less than one month, the European Championship will have taken place in eight countries and we have to be very proud of it. I congratulate all host countries since they were brave enough to share this journey with other nations, but I also congratulate my colleagues from the Board of Administration for supporting this revolutionary idea and concept.”
