Joel Banks takes reins of Finnish men’s national team
Helsinki, Finland, April 29, 2019. Joel Banks will be at the helm of the Finnish men’s national team for the next two years and a half. Banks is coaching Greenyard MAASEIK, which is currently contesting the finals of the Belgian national league against domestic rivals Knack ROESELARE. After the last match of the series, Banks will travel to Finland and take full command of the Finnish national team.
“Of course, I am very happy and proud to be chosen as the head coach. This is a big step for me and my motivation is extremely high. I am very interested to combine coaching in a club and in a national team,” Banks says. He has still one year left of his contract with the Belgian club.
“At this moment I do not know very much of the Finnish team, but I have seen the Finnish national team playing and many of their players in the Belgian league,” he continues. “Finland has a strong team and my job is to lift the team and the players to the next level. My way to coach is to work hard and give a lot to my team and players. I want them to be the best version of themselves they can be. We must together find the best way to play for this team.”
The President of the Finnish Federation Pasi Sydänlammi is very pleased, that Finland found a top-level coach for the national team. “We received excellent feedback from the teams and players about Joel Banks. He has already achieved a lot during his career, but he has still very much ambition to take Finland to the best possible results in the Olympic qualification tournament in August and at the EuroVolley in September,” says Sydänlammi.
The first test for Joel Banks as the head coach of Finland is the European Golden League in May and June.
