The players that were a part of the generation that gave many joyful moments to the nation, so-called “Golden Girls” generation, are retiring from Brazil Women’s Volleyball national team one by one and year by year.

After more than a decade, the name of Thaísa Menezes was not on the list of players summoned to compete for Brazil national team. After having a conversation with the head coach José Guimarães “Zé Roberto”, a 31-year-old middle blocker has chosen to retire from the “Seleção”.

“I write this text with a mix of emotions, emotions accumulated for over 12 years in which I served the Brazilian team! It was an immense pleasure to wear the jersey of my country and honor it all this time... There were unforgettable moments, some tears of sadness that made me grow and mature, but I take with more affection those that I experienced on the podium of Beijing and London (among many others)! But today, with a heavy heart I made the decision that I believe is the best for me and for my future... Today I say goodbye to the Brazilian team and, who knows, with a taste of seeing you soon. I thank you with all my heart, especially you Zé Roberto for the support all these years, for the confidence and mainly for having been my right arm, left arm and my legs in that return to the court! Without you and my family, the story would be different, perhaps without this happy ending! Thank you all who cheer for me, and who fill me with affection, you are and always will be fundamental in my career!” a two-time Olympic champion Thaísa posted on social media.

Recall that the experienced middle blocker returned to playing volleyball a year and a half ago after recovering from a severe injury to the left knee and was embraced by Hinode Barueri and their head coach Zé Roberto who believed that Thaísa will be able to play on a high level again.

She finished the Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 as the second-best blocker (78 kill blocks) and second best attacker (58% excellent attack).
